On his 15 th birthday, Rajat’s mother gave him a set of Agatha Christie novels which he kept aside and got busy unwrapping other gifts. The 15-year old kid was more interested in flashy gifts like video games and high-end bicycles. He only touched the books a few years later on a lazy afternoon when there was no electricity to play the video game and the heat enough to stop him from going outside for a ride.

Soon, he grew fond of the novels and didn’t miss a chance to buy any such novels. Rohini, Rohan’s mother, was an avid reader herself and wanted to instill the same quality in him.

Whenever free, Rohan used to grab the newspaper to look for any piece on crime and would start solving it himself. He searched the internet extensively to get to the surface of the case and then applied his learning from Agatha Christie’s novels to have his own view of the event. He had contacted the police with his findings for aparticular case but was turned down by them as the police didn’t pay much heed to him.

Rajat’s father, Ritesh worked in an ordinance factory and was the chief there. Terrorists had an eye on him as he was one of the country’s keeper of ammunition and explosives. He was leading various departments and was going to be appointed Director General soon. Independence Day was a fortnight away when he started receiving death threats from the terrorists. Ritesh was to unveil a new technology in the bullet proof vests in front of Armed Forces soon.

Couple of days before the event, someone from the Ritesh’s team had leaked this information to the media. Ritesh had to step down from his post. Later that evening he shot himself in his house.

Amidst a crying mother, a deceased father and a whole bunch of people from across the country,
Rohan knew he had a case in hand.
