Ayan woke up late that day and was served his tea right away. His results were to be announced and careless as he was he had misplaced his admission card. He called his father who then called the examination board and got not just Ayan’s roll number but his score card as well.

Ayan’s father had already made up his mind that irrespective of the results Ayan will be graduating abroad. Being the only child to his rich parents, Ayan was born with a silver spoon. His father was a known face in the city and worked on construction projects for the government. His last project was a dam as the nearby villages were facing problems because of irregular water supplies and other basic amenities.

Ayan had somehow managed to pass the exams and continued with his daily chores. He still had a couple of months before leaving and decided to make the most out of them. He often visited the construction site with his father and took interest in the work. Ayan was unaware of the corruption there. He saw that the materials being used were of low quality so that huge profits could be made.

Ayan’s father completed the project in a hurry and flew abroad to stay with Ayan. Few years later Ayan returned to his city to immerse the ashes of his father in the same river on which the dam was built. It was raining heavily that day and the dam came down. It took away not just the ashes but Ayan’s mother as well. Repent was a small word then.
