Storytellers is a series of work in which I ask strangers about their lives and try to reflect it the way I perceive their story. Some of the works were a ‘Burden Reliever’ to the storytellers and some offered a happy memento to them!
Because of my interest towards products and their design I am trying to make ‘Usable Art.’ This month’s art work is a dip pen from which
I tried reflecting a person’s life. The person lived in 7 different cities while growing up thus, the pen is coloured with 7 different hues. The pen resembles a magical wand from a popular movie series as the protagonist here is a die-hard fan of the series. Among the many wands in existence, this particular wand was used because, to me, it looks like many seeds. Seeds are growth initiators. The first step towards something constructive. There are two symbols engraved on the pen from an ancient language as language is something this Storyteller is fond of. She is a gifted poet. There are many other skills she hones thus I wanted to use a language which says more in a few characters. The first symbol I have used means ‘Protection’ since she is on her way to become a surgeon and doctors dedicate their life to protect others. A symbol had to be given to such a noble profession. The second symbol talks about ‘Growth’ as she has grown in many different aspect. She has learnt the art of dancing from her mother, learnt to cook deliciously, and a lot of other things. So, I feel that with so many different experience of culture, geographical changes, skills and education not only help her grow but will definitely accelerate the growth of her next generation and whoever comes in touch with her soul.
Apart from the happiness of making this Usable artwork, nothing can be compared to her reaction when it was gifted to her!
