The meaning of the word “Yoga” is “union”. It is derived from the Sanskrit root “Yuj,” meaning “to join” or “to unite”.

Yoga is a group of physical, mental and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. It’s a practical aid, not a religion. It is an ancient art based on a harmonizing system of development for the body, mind and spirit. The continued practice of Yoga will lead you to a sense of peace and well being and also a feeling of being one with their environment.Anyone can practice yoga. No special equipments or clothes are required, just a small space and a strong desire for a healthier life.

The Yoga postures or Asanas exercise every part of the body, stretching and toning the muscles & joints, the spine and the entire skeletalsystem, & they work not only on the outer body but also on the internal systems, organs, glands and nerves. The yogic breathing exercises known as Pranayama revitalize the body and help in controlling the mind and leaves you feeling calm and refreshed, while the practice of meditation gives mental power and concentration. So many people are first drawn to Yoga as a way of losing weight, keeping their bodies fit or just to keep looking good. Others come seeking help for a specific complaint like tension, backache, etc. For any such problem, Yoga can be the solution.
In the words of B.K.S. Iyengar :
“Words cannot convey the value of Yoga – it has to be experienced”.
